Why would you need this book?

Last week I was sitting with my friend. He asked me “Amit if there was only one book that could help me lose weight, which one would it be ?” I said, “The 4 Hour Body”. I did not have to think twice. Why? Because this is an unconventional book on weight loss. When nothing has worked all advice in this book will work. I will explain to you why.

In 2013, my company was going through a massive change. Several initiatives and key projects had been kicked off. It was a busy time with 10 to 12 hour work days. I had no time for exercise. And even lesser to manage my diet. Before this period, I had managed to lose about 4 kgs. This happened after 1 – 2 months of struggle in the Gym. Working with a trainer & a dietician. They were both good, very . . very good. And I had been losing my weight slowly and steadily.

But then I got busy and I stopped going to the gym. Naturally, I stopped following my diet. Because of that, I gained back all the weight I had lost. From 88 Kgs, I went back to 94 Kgs. In fact, I had gained 2 kgs more than my previous weight of 92 kgs. In all, I gained 6 kgs within a month where I had only lost about 4 kgs in 2 months.

Well, it was a disaster for me. All my hard work was gone down the drain. Not a good result at all. I was totally unhappy and frustrated.

But this is very common. It happens all the time with each one of us. We lose some weight and then gain it back again. We try some diet or exercise and start losing. As soon as we stop it comes back again. Also many times more than what we lose. Simply going to the gym or following a diet blindly is not enough. Each one of us needs to learn more about weight loss. The science behind weight loss. Why we gain weight? How can we lose it? How can we keep it off permanently? Each one of us needs to be an expert in our own sense about our body and our weight.

So coming back to my problem, I was facing this challenge. Struggling to lose weight. Asking the same questions again and again, Why we gain weight? How can we lose it? How can we keep it off permanently? These questions were troubling me. I used to look at those who lost and think, what do they do differently? I needed some answers. But I was looking in the wrong direction.

Weight loss was important to me. And I was desperate to lose at least 10 kgs. With the 10 – 12 hour work days, Gym was out of sight. So I thought maybe if I could free my time. Then I will start my Gym & Diet again. So I started looking for better ways of working. How to be more productive in less time? How can I free up time? These became my pursuits, my obsessions or my goals. Ideally, I thought, with the free time I could pursue my weight loss goal. So my search started in that direction. The direction of Time Management. A direction of work more in less time. And so on.

Books are my ultimate mentors. Whatever little I know today is because of the books I have read. So I started looking for best books in time management. Again I was looking for something interesting and unconventional.

My search stopped at “The 4 Hour Work Week”. The title was intriguing and raised my curiosity. This book’s promise was to free up time. Lots and lots of time. In my case, I just needed about 2 hours every day. So I started reading reviews on Amazon. But the title “The 4 Hour Body” caught my eye in the related books section. It said “Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat Loss”. Again this title was more intriguing, much more than the previous one. It raised my curiosity to the next level. “What? Rapid Fat Loss? This is exactly what I need”, I thought.

I decided to skip “The 4 Hour Work Week” and directly went for this book “The 4 Hour Body”. And it turned out that, this was exactly the book I was looking for. I had read weight loss books, blogs and magazines earlier. But this had some totally unknown and unconventional wisdom. It was like a layman’s guide to my body, my diet and my exercise. Perfect book on weight loss. The perfect book for a busy professional like me. The perfect book for an engineer like me. And that is why I would recommend this to everyone. And yes, you don’t have to be a busy professional or an engineer like me, you can be anybody struggling to lose weight. It can help everyone.

Today whatever little I know on the subject of weight loss is because of this book. This book helped me in understanding everything about weight loss. It revealed some unknown secrets used by athletes. It helped me to lose weight quickly and scientifically. I can now spot the right food from the wrong ones.
